H.I.S. BridgeBuilders Eye Clinic

H.I.S. BridgeBuilders operates a free eye clinic in the Cedar Springs Housing Development of the Dallas Housing Authority. The clinic began in September 2001 under the direction of Dr. Kim Castleberry. In 2004, a partnership was launched with Dr. Castleberry’s alma mater, The University of Houston School of Optometry. The clinic is under the direction of Dr. Joe DeLoach, a visiting professor at the University of Houston’s School of Optometry. The University utilizes the clinic as a training site for externs who are completing their last semester of training. The clinic has adopted glaucoma education and prevention as its main focus. H.I.S. BridgeBuilders staffs the office management and operates an in-house optical laboratory and dispensary. The clinic continues to offer free eye examinations and low-cost glasses to approximately 60 patients each day. In 2008, almost 6,000 patients were seen! Since its inception, the clinic has given optical care to more than 25,000 patients and more than 17,000 pairs of glasses have been distributed.

H.I.S. BridgeBuilders Dental Clinic
(Currently in transition)

H.I.S BridgeBuilders operated a low-cost dental clinic in the Rhodes Terrace Housing Development (a Dallas Housing Authority facility) in South Dallas from 2005-2009. The clinic was a unique collaboration between H.I.S. BridgeBuilders and ServingHim Dental Ministries. Dr. Kevin Seidler, ServingHim’s Founder, was integral in both the development of this clinic and the recruitment of volunteer dentists, who worked on a rotational basis to help us accomplish this needed service. Over 2,500 individuals were seen over that four year period.

Unfortunately, the Dental Clinic is currently offline as the Dallas Housing Authority began demolishing the Rhodes Terrace community in summer 2009. Plans are underway to move the Dental Clinic to West Dallas in the first quarter of 2010.
