Education

A good education is the foundation of a well-rounded and successful member of a community. According to The J. McDonald Williams Institute, the lowest graduation rates in the entire city are in South and West Dallas. In both communities, over 50% of the population over the age of 25 does not have a high school diploma. BridgeBuilders offers the highest quality GED classes and tutoring to support and encourage students to finish their GED. However, our help does not end when an individual is done with their class. Each day of class they are fed and given the opportunity to be mentored by a member of the HISBB staff or volunteer and also encouraged to join a weekly Bible study.

GED Class

BridgeBuilders partners with Dallas Independent School District’s Adult Basic Education program to offer a free GED class in the Turner Courts Multipurpose Center. This class meets Monday – Thursday from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm following the DISD school calendar. The instructor, Ms. Julie Busse, is a certified teacher with experience teaching in the public schools, in a corporate environment, and even in prison settings. In addition to being fed lunch each day, our GED students are offered an opportunity for spiritual nourishment through our weekly Bible studies. If you are a former teacher and are interested in making a difference in an adult student’s life, please consider volunteering to tutor or assist with our GED class.

PARENTING CLASSES

BridgeBuilders is working with the Parent and Family Life Coaching group to offer parenting classes. The topics are varied from Single Parenting to Discipline to Teaching Responsibility to Sibling Rivalry. We are excited for the opportunity to work with such an excellent organization and their willingness to give of their time to providing much needed education for the parents of Bonton. We will be offering the classes after school from 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm at scheduled times in the Fall and Spring. If you have experience in teaching parenting classes and would like to become involved, we welcome the opportunity to offer additional classes.

Ms. Julie Busse, H.I.S. BridgeBuilders' GED Instructor, teaches a class.
