Restoring Adolescent Workmanship

One of the greatest social disadvantages for young men without a father in the home is the lack of work ethic that stems from having no consistent example of a hard working male role model. When young men do not understand the importance of hard work it tends to be a hindrance to any spiritual growth and the underlying reason for which many resort to illegal means of earning money through selling drugs or violence.

In an effort to restore a sense of work ethic and responsibility in the minds of young men, this summer H.I.S. BridgeBuilders has provided the young men of south Dallas with local work opportunities coupled with an intense discipleship program. The goal has been to develop their whole person and reverse the trend of slothfulness that is contributing to the unproductiveness in the lives of many youth and adults in struggling communities. This year’s theme is derived from Paul’s rule written to the Thessalonians, “If anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either.” 1 Thess. 3:10.

The program was overseen by ministry associates Phillip Hill, Rodrick Yarbrough, Carlos Sambrano, and Michael Fechner, Jr., who has been working for the ministry this summer.
