Our ministry has discovered this summer that sports is a great bridge to reach children for Christ. For the entire month of July, the Prestonwood Sports Outreach ministry, led by Joe Perry, invested in the children of BonTon by conducting a sports camp two days a week. Young boys and girls had the opportunity to learn skills in football, basketball, and baseball from some former collegiate athletes and coaches.
The most important aspect of the summer sports camp, however, was the opportunity to build bridges of Christ’s love one relationship at a time with children. PSO director Joe Perry says, “Because many of us went repeatedly, we began to build great relationships with these children. It was difficult for me not to cry the last day we were there.”
Each day an H.I.S. BridgeBuilder ministry associate would give a short devotion and presentation of the gospel. Many children responded to the gospel and prayed to receive Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. We rejoice in the Lord for the relationships formed, salvation received, and for the investment made in the South Dallas community. |
